John Dizard's new Financial Times column warns us about taking advantage of the Greek crisis to speculate on the Euro:

The US dollar is suffering some damage this morning, as Donald Kohn is set to retire as Federal Reserve Vice President, and word leaked out last night that easy money Kohn [Sep 12, 2009: Federal Reserve's Kohn: We Plan to Keep Throwing Kerosene on the Fire] is being replaced by easier money Janet Yellen.

More then a year back I had posted an article in the blog "BEWARE" http://bluechips4u.blogspot.com/2007/10/beware.html  on the logic and ethics of investment calls and views on stocks by the so called big Institutions - Brokers / Funds. At that time I highlighted how so many of them had gone wrong by giving SELL calls while Nifty rose from 4200 to 6300.

Wall Street is a product machine. This is the essence of understanding Wall Street. It creates products. It sells them to us. If we buy them, it makes an instant fee. If the product loses us money, that's our problem. Wall Street have moved onto something else. Unlike a normal "manufacturer" nothing from Wall Street carries any sort of warranty. If the wheels fall off, it's your problem.

I was struck by these tax numbers in a recent CNN Money piece:

In 2009, roughly 47% of households, or 71 million, will not owe any federal income tax, according to estimates by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.

Some in that group will even get additional money from the government because they qualify for refundable tax breaks.

This  piece from the Financial Times is about a month old; just have not had time to get around to writing the entry it deserves.  It is a pretty comprehensive piece, and I always find it interesting to see views looking in on the U.S. from abroad.   This should be nothing new to long time readers as this story incorporates countless themes we've discussed on the website, but many of the topics we've been highlighting for years are now approaching critical mass as the (credit) tide has washed out.
