Help a Reader: Suggestions for Hawaii

Here's another Help a Reader question from me (FMF). You all have been so helpful in the past that I wanted to ask your take on the following:
As many of you know, we live in Michigan. As you may or may not know, Michigan has AT LEAST five months of winter (November through March -- more if you count the cold in October and April.) We've never taken a vacation to a warm climate in the winter, but this year we are seriously considering it. And we've (pretty much) narrowed it down to Hawaii. It's somewhere I've never been (my wife has) and a place I've always wanted to go.
